\nLifts Ban on \u201cPalestine Action,\u201d Upholds Freedom of Expression and Assembly<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The UK Supreme Court in London
\nhas ruled that the British government\u2019s decision to ban the pro-Palestinian
\norganization \u201cPalestine Action\u201d and designate it as a terrorist group was
\nunlawful. The decision follows a legal challenge filed by one of the movement\u2019s
\nfounders.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Interior Secretary Suella
\nBraverman said she intends to appeal the ruling at the Court of Appeal.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The UK government had banned
\n\u201cPalestine Action\u201d last July after the group intensified its targeting of
\nBritish defense companies linked to Israel, using direct actions that often
\ninvolved blocking entrances and spraying red paint.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Supreme Court upheld two
\ngrounds of the legal challenge, noting that the ban \u201cconstituted a serious
\nviolation of the right to freedom of expression and freedom of assembly,\u201d
\naccording to Justice Victoria Sharp. She added that the ban would remain in effect
\nto allow the lawyers on both sides to address the next steps.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

In response to the ruling, the
\nMetropolitan Police announced that it would focus on gathering evidence related
\nto allegations involving \u201cPalestine Action,\u201d rather than making immediate
\narrests.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The police confirmed that they
\nwill continue monitoring instances of support for the movement while
\nprioritizing the identification of those involved and taking appropriate legal
\naction at a later stage.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
